Topics discussed emphasized on the idea of an international metadata model for archiving libraries \/ initiatives, for the sustainability of archived items and on EPICo becoming the umbrella committee for organizing the traditional so-called Kuopio Conference in the future.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text\">Having said that, the subsequent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ub.unibas.ch\/ub-hauptbibliothek\/wir-ueber-uns\/termine-veranstaltungen\/kuopio-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">6th Kuopio Conference<\/a> at the Basel University Library includes a presentation by Brigitte Kromp and Wolfgang Mayer on Thursday 15th based on their book chapter in the newly published De Gruyter book:<br \/>\n\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1515\/9783110535372\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Repositories for Print. Strategies for Access, Preservation and Democracy<\/a>\u201d.<br \/>\nThe book is being presented officially during the conference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shared Archiving Austria Representatives\u2019 Meeting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text\">The first national meeting of members\u2019 representatives of Shared Archiving Austria will take place during the ODOK in Eisenstadt (Wednesday, Sep 28th 2016, 4:00-5:30 PM).<br \/>\nTopics will include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"text\">status of project and infrastructure (website, wiki)<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\">participation in the international cooperation EPICo<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\">implementation of the Austrian Archive Holdings withing ALEPH and PRIMO<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\">current archiving project ACM &#8211; Association for Computing Machinery<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\">start of execution of projects ACS \u2013 American Chemical Society (former pilot project) and IOP \u2013 Institute of Physics<\/li>\n<li class=\"text\">next steps, suggestions for further products to archive<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"text\">miscellaneous<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"text\">&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p class=\"bold\"><strong>Shared Archiving Austria participation at Symposium \u201cSharing is Caring\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">On September 22nd University Library Mainz and University Library Gie\u00dfen jointly organised a symposium named \u201cSharing is Caring\u201d covering (collaborative) archiving initiatives (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ub.uni-mainz.de\/sharing-is-caring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.ub.uni-mainz.de\/sharing-is-caring\/<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 80 attendees from various German libraries followed the invitation and got the chance to hear about various projects and to discuss the current situation in Germany. The symposium was chaired by library directors Andreas Brandtner (Mainz) and Peter Reuter (Gie\u00dfen).<\/p>\n<p>Dorothea Sommer (Bavarian State Library) started the talks with an overview about important<br \/>\nEuropean projects, in fact describing all of the founding members of EPICo and citing EPICo\u2019s mission statement.<\/p>\n<p>Brigitte Kromp and Wolfgang Mayer (Vienna University Library) presented the Shared Archiving Austria initiative and informed about EPICo\u2019s current status, goals and activities.<br \/>\nDaniel Tschirren (ZHB Luzern) followed with detailed information about the Kooperative Speicherbibliothek Schweiz and its economic model.<\/p>\n<p>Then Corinna Roeder (State Library Oldenburg) gave a critical statement about incomplete legal regulations regarding discarding library holdings at German libraries and the necessity to coordinate those activities more efficiently.<\/p>\n<p>Finally Olaf Eigenbrodt (Hamburg State and University Library) and Robert Zepf (University Library Rostock) presented the plan for a collaborative archiving concept for Northern German libraries with considerable similarities to the Austrian project.<\/p>\n<p>Publication of the five presentations is planned for a coming issue of the German library science journal ABI Technik (De Gruyter; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.degruyter.com\/view\/j\/abitech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.degruyter.com\/view\/j\/abitech<\/a>) in 2017.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>In November 2015, representatives from seven European Print programmes attended a workshop to discuss and identify collaborative opportunities. The event, co-organised by Shared Archiving Austria and UKRR, was attended by delegates from CTLes (France), GEPA CBUC (Catalonia), the National Repository Library (Finland), the Repository Library of Norway, and ZHB Luzern (Switzerland).<\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" width=\"603\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr align=\"center\" valign=\"top\">\n<td width=\"603\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-163\" src=\"http:\/\/ubifo.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/shared_archieving_meeting.jpg\" alt=\"shared_archieving_meeting\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubifo.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/shared_archieving_meeting.jpg 500w, https:\/\/ubifo.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/shared_archieving_meeting-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr align=\"center\" valign=\"top\">\n<td class=\"italicSmall\">l to r: Santi Balagu\u00e9, Jonny Edvardsen, Daryl Yang, Deborah Shorley, Pentti Vattulainen, Brigitte Kromp, Wolfgang Mayer, Eva Ramminger (moderator), Ulrich Niederer, Jean-Louis Baraggioli<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p class=\"text\">A wide range of topics were covered on the day, from challenges and opportunities on a European level to specific collaborative ideas and plans that aim to turn talks into actions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">The following mission statement was drafted:<\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" width=\"603\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"bold\" bgcolor=\"#CCCCCC\" width=\"593\"><strong>\u201cWe believe that a comprehensive and robust research and information infrastructure is essential for Europe\u2019s wellbeing, now and in the future.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>We are concerned that, at a time of unprecedented change in the ways information is collected, stored and disseminated, there is a real danger that some of the important printed resources in our European libraries may be at risk.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>In view of this we intend to initiate a number of plans.\u201d<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p class=\"text\">After this first event the group met again in May 2016 at the BULAC in Paris. During this event an official name for the collaboration was formulated. The members agreed upon<br \/>\n<strong><span class=\"bold\">EPICo : European Print Initiatives Collaboration<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">The group prioritized two main tasks for the near future:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li class=\"text\">to build a database of archiving projects based on a questionnaire.
